Description: A Marksville, Louisiana man has been arrested on charges of killing a Louisiana black bear in Avoyelles Parish in late November of last year. It took the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service almost three months to track down 30-year-old Derek P. Sayer. He has been booked into the Avoyelles Parish Prison.

The dead bear was spotted along an all terrain vehicle trail about 20 miles northwest of Marksville. It was believed to be about two-years-old and weighed 100 pounds. The Louisiana black bear is on the endangered species list.

If convicted, Sayer could be fined up to $950 and sentenced up to 120 days in jail. He could also be forced to pay $10,000 in restitution. That money would go to the state of Louisiana.
